What BNO Travel launched
BNO Travel is selling BNO Service as a commercial software product for hotels, destination companies and lodging providers. The Norwegian company built the platform for its own operations and ran it there before offering it to outside customers. Hotel Technology News carries the announcement as vendor-supplied copy in its Announcement section, and the page is stamped 28 September 2026.
BNO Travel says Visit Stranda has signed the first external software and licence agreement. BNO Service is also available through the Mews Marketplace, where it connects through the Mews Connector API.
What the platform does
BNO Service covers operations and workforce management for hotels, resorts, vacation rentals and serviced accommodation. Through its integration with the Mews Connector API, it turns reservation, unit and product data into operational work for housekeeping, cleaning, maintenance and other service tasks.
The platform creates tasks from reservations and products held in Mews. It supports workforce planning, team management, standard task times, checklists, documentation and employee time tracking. Completed work feeds operational reporting, payroll preparation, labour-cost calculation and contribution-margin analysis at assignment level. BNO Travel designed it for multi-property and multi-company operations, for managers, team leaders and operational staff.
The operations-to-profitability angle
Jan Terje Ås, managing director of BNO Travel AS, said the platform started as an internal fix.
"We initially developed BNO Service because we needed better control of our own operations, actual working time and the profitability of individual assignments," Ås said. "Over time, we realized that these challenges were not unique to us. That is why we have built BNO Service so that the same technology can also be used by other lodging providers."
He tied operations to the financial side in a second comment. "It is not enough to know that a housekeeping assignment has been completed. We also want to understand how much time was actually spent, what it cost and whether the assignment was profitable," he said.
The first external licence and the Mews listing
Visit Stranda signed the first external commercial software and licence agreement, according to BNO Travel. Ås called the signing a milestone, because it moves BNO Travel from building software around its own requirements to building a product for hotels, destination companies and lodging businesses.
The Mews Marketplace lists BNO Service with the description "Multilingual housekeeping, operations, workforce planning and time tracking integrated with Mews." The listing names the direct Connector API integration, automatic operational assignments from Mews product and reservation data, central planning of cleaning, housekeeping, maintenance and service operations, team staffing with designated team leaders, a mobile workflow for employees, digital checklists and task documentation, working-time and labour-cost tracking, payroll export preparation, revenue and contribution-margin analysis per assignment, and a multi-property and multi-company architecture.
The read for a day-use operation
A property that sells daytime blocks runs a labour shape of its own. A room sold for part of a day turns over more than once, and each turnover carries its own housekeeping, cleaning and inspection window. The named assets fit that shape: automatic task creation from reservation and product data, standard task times, checklists and time tracking, all held inside the Mews record.
The assignment-level cost figure is the number a day-use desk needs, because the block price has to cover the labour inside the window it sells. The release and the Mews listing publish no day rate, no hourly rate, no minimum stay and no per-block result. An operator selling blocks should treat the platform's cost reporting as an overnight measurement and test it against the property's own turnover count.
What to measure
Track time per assignment against standard task time, the gap between scheduled and worked hours by department, and the contribution margin per assignment. Ask the vendor how the platform treats a room turned more than once in a day, and how the payroll export splits a daytime block from an overnight stay. Then price the change against the property's own blended wage rate.
