Nobu sets its first Puerto Rico hotel for 2028

Nobu Hospitality's first Puerto Rico property, Nobu Hotel and Restaurant San Juan, is planned to open in 2028 with a street-level restaurant and bar and a rooftop lounge.

Nobu Signs Its First Puerto Rico Hotel

Nobu Hospitality has announced Nobu Hotel and Restaurant San Juan. The release, datelined New York on 30 September 2026, calls the project the brand’s first venture into Puerto Rico. Hospitality Ireland carried the announcement on 1 October 2026.

The hotel will sit in San Juan. The release describes the city as one of the Caribbean’s most recognized historic destinations and points to its centuries of history, distinctive architecture, cultural heritage, dining, galleries and waterfront.

A 50-Room Hotel with a Street-Level Restaurant and a Rooftop Bar

The 50-room luxury hotel will carry a signature Nobu restaurant and bar at street level, plus a rooftop lounge and bar. The release describes the design as reflecting the character and heritage of San Juan while introducing Nobu’s contemporary aesthetic and what it calls an understated approach to luxury.

The hotel is scheduled to open in 2028. The release names no month inside the year and sets no construction timetable, so the opening window is the whole of 2028 as the brand states it.

Horwell on the San Juan Setting

Trevor Horwell, chief executive officer of Nobu Hospitality, tied the signing to the destination. “Puerto Rico has long been one of the Caribbean’s most compelling destinations, celebrated for its rich history, vibrant culture, and exceptional hospitality,” he said. “Bringing the Nobu Hotel and Restaurant to San Juan allows us to become part of one of the region’s most storied neighborhoods while introducing our distinctive approach to hospitality in a destination that continues to attract discerning travelers from around the world.”

The brand adds that guests can expect designed accommodations, service inspired by the Japanese spirit of omotenashi, dining, and curated experiences that connect them to the culture and character of Puerto Rico.

The Development Partner Behind the Project

The release carries a second statement from Joakim Lehmkuhl, managing partner of KTT. “Few places in the Caribbean combine culture, history, and energy the way San Juan does,” he said. “Nobu saw the same thing, and that shared understanding is what makes this work. This reflects the kind of investment we believe the city deserves.”

KTT is the development partner of record. The Puerto Rico business outlet News is My Business states the project is being developed with KTT. No corporate site, registration or track record for KTT was locatable, so the partner is recorded as named in the release and nothing more.

Nobu’s Hotel Record Since 2013

Nobu Hospitality was founded by the chef Nobu Matsuhisa with the actor Robert De Niro and the producer Meir Teper. The company grew out of the Nobu restaurant that opened in New York in 1994 and entered hotels in 2013 with its first property at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, per News is My Business.

The company says it is on track to reach 40 hotels by the end of the year. It reports 10 residential projects in development, after a first residential project announced in Toronto in 2017 in which it says all 650 residences sold within 90 days. Those are the company’s own figures. Nobu’s hotel-collection page lists San Juan under the Americas and marks it coming soon.
