New York Day Rooms Start at $61 After World Cup Host-Market Rate Gains

NTTO counted 6.25 million July arrivals, 0.1 per cent below July 2025. Host-market RevPAR rose 35.2 per cent on World Cup match days. New York's day-room shelf starts at $61.

Six and a quarter million arrivals

The United States received 6.25 million international visitors in July, 0.1 per cent fewer than in July 2025, according to the National Travel and Tourism Office. U.S. citizens made 11.78 million international departures in the same month, up 2.3 per cent, on the office's own count. July carried the decisive stages of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The source-market split

NTTO's figures split the headline. Arrivals from Canada rose 7.6 per cent year on year. Arrivals from Mexico rose 8 per cent. Overseas arrivals, the office's category that excludes both neighbours, fell 7 per cent.

Mexico was the largest source market in NTTO's count at nearly 1.7 million arrivals. Canada followed at 1.47 million. The two neighbouring countries together generated just over half of all international arrivals in July. The United Kingdom ranked third at 386,960 arrivals, then India at 182,146 and Japan at 166,902. Those five markets accounted for 62.4 per cent of the monthly total.

Two limits sit on the arrival count. NTTO records arrivals, and a visitor who crosses the border more than once inside a multi-country itinerary can appear more than once in the total. Mexican visitors who remain inside the border zone sit outside it. The office's July 2026 figures are preliminary and remain open to revision.

What Tourism Economics measured

Tourism Economics separated the tournament's countries from the rest of the world. Overseas arrivals from countries participating in the World Cup fell 1.1 per cent across June and July, on the firm's figures. Arrivals from countries that did not participate fell 8.9 per cent across the same two months. Visitors aged 25 to 44 from participating countries rose 5.7 per cent.

Tourism Economics put the tournament's incremental hotel room revenue at approximately $634 million in and around U.S. host markets on match dates. Host-market room revenue rose 36.3 per cent on those dates, on the same firm's estimate.

What the U.S. Travel Association measured

The U.S. Travel Association found international inbound traffic through host-city airports up 0.7 per cent during the tournament. Nationwide inbound travel fell 3.6 per cent across January to May.

Across the 11 U.S. host markets, room-night demand was nearly flat over the full tournament period on the association's analysis. Revenue per available room rose 17.8 per cent. On match days the increase reached 35.2 per cent. Revenue per available room rose 14.6 per cent in host markets and 11.3 per cent in adjacent markets across June and July, against 6.8 per cent in non-host areas, on figures the association's own chart credits to CoStar, STR and Tourism Economics. The association also found that 73 per cent of international match attendees visited at least one additional U.S. community.

The hotel performance set

CoStar's July figures, reported by Hotel Management, put U.S. occupancy at 69.7 per cent, up 2.3 per cent. Average daily rate read $171.74, up 5.7 per cent. Revenue per available room read $119.77, up 8.2 per cent.

New York City recorded the largest rate and revenue gains among major U.S. hotel markets in CoStar's set. Its average daily rate rose 24 per cent to $351.18. Revenue per available room rose 27.1 per cent to $305.74. The final was played in nearby New Jersey.

The New York day-room shelf

Dayuse listed 113 day hotels in New York on 13 October 2026, at day rates from $61.00 to $374.65 with booking fees and $55.00 to $364.65 without. The Romana Hotel NYC in Long Island City holds the floor at $61.00. The Hilton Garden Inn NYC Financial Center/Manhattan Downtown holds the top at $374.65. The shelf runs from two-star to five-star cards.

A day booking sells part of a room-day whose payroll, utilities and administrative cost are committed before the slot goes on sale. The day rate must clear the committed cost of the room-day it shares. On the CoStar set the New York overnight rate reached $351.18 in July, and the city's day-room floor sat 83 per cent below that figure on the October read.

Outbound travel

Mexico was the leading destination for U.S. citizens in July at 3.71 million departures, or 31.5 per cent of the monthly total, on NTTO's count. Europe drew 2.75 million U.S. travellers, 23.4 per cent of all departures, down 1.2 per cent. Canada registered a 7.5 per cent increase in U.S. visitors. Departure figures carry no reason for travel.

Year to date, North America accounted for 48.8 per cent of U.S. international departures and overseas destinations for 51.2 per cent, per NTTO. Mexico and the Caribbean together represented 47.7 per cent of outbound trips.

Where the data sets stop

None of the three data sets carries an hourly rate, a day rate or a minimum stay for any host market. The daytime price sits on each property's own rate card.
