The RIVVY, a Tribute Portfolio hotel by Marriott, has opened in Chicago's River North neighbourhood at the former Hotel 55 site. Coury Hospitality manages the 297-room property.
The hotel sits steps from Michigan Avenue and near the Chicago Riverwalk. It carries 8,187 square feet of meeting and event space across eight rooms. Lure Fishbar occupies the first floor, and a fitness center serves the building.
A rebrand at 55 East Ontario Street
The address is 55 East Ontario Street, Chicago, Illinois 60611. The building traded as Hotel 55 Chicago Downtown before the change. Marriott's event and dining pages carry that legacy name above the RIVVY logo.
The building operated as the 21c Museum Hotel Chicago before the Hotel 55 flag. Coury Hospitality's portfolio page lists Hotel 55 Chicago Downtown as a 297-room boutique hotel, and the RIVVY is the rebrand of that building.
Skift's Daily Lodging Report described the RIVVY on 29 September 2026 as a 297-room Tribute Portfolio hotel in River North, a conversion of the former Hotel 55 managed by Coury Hospitality.
Lure Fishbar and the event floor
Lure Fishbar occupies the first floor. Eater Chicago reported that the restaurant took the former Primehouse space inside the building. Lure Fishbar's own listing places it in River North at 616 North Rush Street, the street-level frontage of the Ontario and Rush corner.
Marriott's events page for the hotel records 8,187 square feet of total event space across eight event rooms, with capacity for 250 in the largest. The same page names a 2,688-square-foot Main Gallery.
Rooms and public spaces
The guest rooms and suites carry clean-lined furnishings, curated artwork and a neutral palette. The room package includes plush bedding, areas for lounging and working, and Salt & Stone bath amenities.
Public spaces hold layered artwork and residential-inspired furnishings with settings for lounging, working and gathering.
Programming and the neighbourhood
The hotel's programming spans social, cultural and wellness events. The schedule includes The Lucky Tile Classic mahjong tournament, art workshops inspired by Día de los Muertos, and Seasonal Reset Yoga.
The Grand Red Line station sits less than a five-minute walk from the door. The CTA Grand station at 521 North State Street is about 324 metres away on pedestrian routing. The Magnificent Mile, the Chicago Riverwalk, Millennium Park and Navy Pier all sit within reach.
Andrew Casperson, president of Coury Hospitality, described the intent: "The RIVVY represents the kind of hospitality experience we believe today's travelers are looking for: distinctive, approachable and genuinely connected to its surroundings." He said River North is one of Chicago's most dynamic neighbourhoods and that the vision is a hotel that reflects that energy and gives guests a base from which to explore the city.
