A 67-room conversion on Calle de San Bernardo
IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed San Bernardo, Vignette Collection in Madrid, the company said in a release dated 29 September 2026. The hotel will hold 67 rooms, and IHG expects it to open in March 2028.
The property occupies a partially protected heritage office building on Calle de San Bernardo in central Madrid. IHG says the redevelopment will preserve key architectural features and add contemporary design and amenities. The signing takes IHG's open and pipeline Luxury & Lifestyle portfolio in Spain to 21 properties.
What the building will hold
The release lists an internal courtyard, an all-day dining venue, a lounge and bar, and fitness facilities among the planned amenities. It places the hotel close to Gran Vía.
The 67 rooms sit inside the existing structure. IHG frames the project as the conversion of an office building into a hotel.
San Bernardo 19, Hotel Collection International and Catella
The property is owned by San Bernardo 19 S.L. and will be operated by Hotel Collection International, which IHG calls one of its largest franchisees in the country. Catella, a Spanish real estate advisory and investment management firm, has consulted on the deal.
Geels on the signing
Willemijn Geels, vice president of development for Europe at IHG, said Madrid is one of Europe's most dynamic luxury hotel markets and the signing gives IHG an opportunity to grow Vignette Collection in the heart of the city. She said the heritage building, the location close to Gran Vía and the operator create the ingredients for a distinctive hotel, and that the collection is resonating with owners who want to keep what makes their hotels distinctive while using IHG's scale, systems and global reach.
The Spanish portfolio at 21 properties
IHG calls Spain one of its priority growth markets in Europe. Its Spanish portfolio spans ten brands across the Luxury & Lifestyle, Premium, Essentials and Suites segments, with expansion in Madrid, Barcelona, Mallorca, Málaga and Marbella.
The Vignette Collection additions already open or signed in Spain include Finca Banyols in Mallorca, Casa del Compositor in Jerez and Hacienda de la Vega in Carmona.
Vignette Collection at 38 open hotels
IHG reports 38 open Vignette Collection hotels and a further 46 in the pipeline as of 30 June 2026. The brand made its European debut with Casa da Companhia in Porto and has since expanded into the United Kingdom, Hungary, Italy, France, Türkiye and Spain. Recent European additions include Canary Riverside Plaza in London and Esperança Hotel in Braga.
IHG describes Vignette Collection as a family of individual properties in urban and resort locations. Each hotel keeps its own name and identity, and the collection runs two signature hallmarks the company calls Memorable Rituals and A Means for Good.
The release says the brand has passed the halfway point towards its original ambition of 100 hotels within ten years of its launch.
