One Saturday, One Window
Leap's 44th Annual Sandcastle Classic runs Saturday, 24 October 2026 at Ocean Beach at Balboa Street. Admission is free.
The clock runs from an 8:00 a.m. team check-in to a 3:30 p.m. close. Site prep opens at 10:00 a.m., students arrive between 10:00 and 10:30 a.m., and castle building starts at 11:00 a.m. Building ends at 2:30 p.m., and the award ceremony starts at 3:15 p.m.
Leap counts more than 5,000 people at Ocean Beach each year on its home page and nearly 5,000 on its sponsors page. Four to five hours of that crowd sit inside the middle of the day.
A Midday Crowd Sits in the Midday Slots
A day-use room sells the same hours. The slot names the day-use platform publishes run morning 6:00 a.m. to noon, afternoon noon to 6:00 p.m., evening 6:00 p.m. to midnight and overnight midnight to 6:00 a.m.
The build lands in the morning and afternoon slots. An operator who sells either slot on the west side prices it against a crowd that arrives before noon and stays past the last award.
The Organiser Publishes No Lodging Terms
A sweep of the landing page, the event info pages, the schedule, the FAQ, the press page, the participate page and the events calendar returns no partner property, no room block, no rate and no booking cut-off. Enquiries run through sandcastle@leaparts.org and (415) 512-1899.
Team registration closed on 15 August 2026. Individual participant registration stays open through 15 October 2026, and the public drops in on the day.
The Day-Use Shelf on the Gate's Own Read
dayuse.com's San Francisco page carried 20 listed properties on 15 October 2026, nine of them inside the city, at $91 to $159 including booking fees. The nine-card mean is $128.
The city cards include the Hilton San Francisco Financial District in Chinatown at $116, Hotel Zeppelin in Lower Nob Hill at $138, the Axiom Hotel at Union Square at $122 and The Mosser at $91. The platform states its discount line as up to 75 percent off an overnight stay, with cancellation free until the start of the booked slot and payment at the hotel.
None of the 20 cards sits in the beach ZIPs. Ocean Beach property runs through 94121, 94122 and 94116, and the day-use page lists no card at those addresses on this read.
Three Questions for the Property
One Saturday, one crowd, one afternoon. The figures an operator can publish are the 5,000-plus crowd Leap counts, the 11:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. window, and the day-use band of 30 to 75 percent below the nightly rate at the same hotel.
Ask the property three things for 24 October: whether a morning or an afternoon slot is open, the floor on rooms sold into one slot, and the last hour a guest can leave.
