10.3 Million Air Arrivals in the Second Quarter
International air arrivals to the United States fell 6.1 per cent year on year in the second quarter of 2026, according to the National Travel and Tourism Office. The office's Survey of International Air Travelers recorded 10.3 million arrivals between April and June.
Overseas markets supplied 7.4 million of those arrivals, Canada 2.0 million and Mexico 886,000. The survey has run monthly since January 1983.
Overseas Arrivals Fell 8.0 Per Cent
Arrivals from overseas markets fell 8.0 per cent. Canadian arrivals fell 0.9 per cent and Mexican arrivals fell 0.5 per cent.
The World Cup Added 471,000 Air Visitors
NTTO estimates 471,000 international air visitors entered the country for the FIFA World Cup in the quarter. The estimate splits into 341,000 from overseas markets, 91,000 from Mexico and 38,000 from Canada.
World Cup visitors accounted for 4.6 per cent of overseas air arrivals, 10.3 per cent of Mexican air arrivals and 1.9 per cent of Canadian air arrivals. A further 374,000 overseas visitors came for the tournament by air, land and sea combined.
The tournament opened on 11 June, so the quarter holds its opening weeks. NTTO states that a fuller reading of the tournament needs third-quarter arrivals, hotel performance figures and host-market spending.
Where the Arrivals Landed
Florida received 2.7 million international air visitors in the quarter. New York followed with 2.6 million, California with 2.2 million, Texas with 924,000 and Nevada with 846,000.
At city level, New York drew 2.6 million, Miami 1.3 million, Los Angeles and Orlando 1.2 million each, and Las Vegas 829,000.

The United Kingdom supplied 1.0 million overseas visitors, the largest single source market. India supplied 602,000, Brazil 461,000, Japan 423,000 and Germany 368,000. Those five markets account for 35 per cent of overseas arrivals.
Overseas visitors stayed 17.5 nights on average and spent $1,938 per trip. Canadian visitors stayed 9.4 nights and spent $1,129. Mexican visitors stayed 9.5 nights and spent $1,537.

Italy drew 1.8 million US residents, the United Kingdom 1.7 million, France 1.4 million, Spain 1.1 million and the Dominican Republic 937,000.
What a Day-Use Operator Reads Here
Overseas arrivals carry the longest stays, at 17.5 nights. An 8.0 per cent fall at that trip length removes about 11.3 million visitor nights from the overseas base across the quarter.
The 341,000 overseas World Cup air visitors cover about half of the 643,000 overseas arrival shortfall.
The survey reports nights and trip spend. A day-use operator sells hours inside those nights, so the average trip length sets the window a guest has for a daytime room.
Three gateway cities hold the volume: New York at 2.6 million, Miami at 1.3 million and Los Angeles at 1.2 million. Day-use inventory in those markets sits inside a 17.5-night average overseas stay.
