The week a hotelier plans against
AGU26 runs 7 to 11 December 2026 at Moscone Center, 747 Howard Street. The American Geophysical Union's press release of 1 September 2026 puts more than 24,000 attendees at the meeting, presenting research.
The housing block lists 44 hotels. Rates start at $199 at Hotel Fusion and reach $295 at the Grand Hyatt San Francisco. Sixteen of the 44 were sold out when the block was read on 16 October 2026.
Five nights of programme
The meeting's day index lists 2,268 records across six days, read on 16 October 2026. Monday 7 December carries 517, Tuesday 501, Wednesday 507, Thursday 483 and Friday 223. Sunday 6 December carries 37.
AGU's release names two session venues outside the halls, the San Francisco Marriott Marquis at 780 Mission Street and the InterContinental San Francisco at 888 Howard Street. The block places them 0.3 miles and 0.2 miles from the centre.
A block of 44 properties
The housing widget lists 44 properties in the AGU26 Official Housing Block. W San Francisco sits 0.1 miles from the hall. Three properties sit inside a quarter mile, 13 inside half a mile and 33 inside a mile. The band ends at 2.5 miles with Hotel Riu Plaza and Hotel Zephyr Fisherman's Wharf. The median property sits 0.7 miles out.
An 86-day booking window
Registration and housing opened on 25 August 2026. The housing block closes on 19 November 2026. Eighty-six days separate the opening from the close, and 18 days separate the close from the first night.
The organiser's release states: "Bookings close 19 November but may fill before that date." A card guarantee holds a reservation, and the housing guide puts the release window at one hour.
The citywide rate context
Engine prices San Francisco at $165 a night across 3.1 million public rate observations from May 2024 to April 2026. It defines these as par rates, the cheapest publicly available price at the time of each search. December averages $129, 22 percent under the city average. November sits at $147 and March at $197. Engine puts the gap between its cheapest and priciest months at 35 percent, and ranks San Francisco 18 of 50 markets, 11 percent above the $148 median.
The hall's own calendar
Moscone's event feed carries AGU26 on 7 to 11 December 2026 across Moscone North, South and West. No other record in the feed overlaps 7 to 12 December 2026. The same feed carries AGU23 on 11 to 15 December 2023 in the same three halls.
The venue's Book an Event page states that the centre "serves primarily to fill hotel rooms in San Francisco and potentially the surrounding area", and counts more than two-thirds of the city's 34,000 hotel rooms within walking distance. The venue's FAQ counts over 20,000 rooms within walking distance.
What the block leaves open
One date stands for a hotelier. The housing block closes on 19 November 2026, eighteen days before the 7 December arrival. The organiser publishes no pick-up figure and no room-night total.
