Hyatt opens The Clayfield in Niagara-on-the-Lake at 15,000 points a night

Hyatt opened The Clayfield, a 102-room Unbound Collection hotel in Niagara-on-the-Lake, on 17 September 2026. Category 5 award nights start at 15,000 points and cash rates sit near $316.

The opening

Hyatt Hotels Corporation opened The Clayfield on 17 September 2026 in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. The 102-room boutique hotel joins The Unbound Collection by Hyatt.

The property sits on Lake Ontario in the Niagara Peninsula wine region. Two local families built it. David Feldberg founded Stratus Vineyards. John Hawley is president of Village Developments Inc., the company behind the Clayfield Commons neighbourhood around the hotel.

The building

Sid Lee Architecture of Montreal designed the hotel. The firm drew the sweeping curves from the region's escarpment. The vertical timber echoes the rows of neighbouring vineyards. The name comes from the clay-rich landscape.

Eight room categories and eight suite categories are on sale. Entry-level rooms run 360 to 480 square feet, or 33 to 45 square metres. Vineyard View versions of each room type carry a small premium. Suites start at the 570 square foot Grapevine Corner Suite and reach the 948 to 987 square foot Stratus two-bedroom corner suite.

Every room carries a wine-tasting station, a Nespresso machine and a 55-inch television.

Food, drink and the spa

Terrain is the main restaurant. The Ascari Group operates it, with Executive Chef Joel LaBute in the kitchen. The room holds an 80-seat main dining room, a 25-seat lobby bar and a chef's table. Breakfast runs from 07:00 and dinner from 17:00 daily. The Lobby Bar opens 11:00 to 22:00.

The Rooftop at The Clayfield serves cocktails and small plates over the vineyards. Hyatt calls it Niagara-on-the-Lake's first rooftop patio. It trades Wednesday to Sunday.

The spa works from Niagara's mineral-rich clay and its wine culture. Treatments include clay-based body rituals and vinotherapy.

Hyatt's opening release lists more than 5,400 square feet of flexible event space, with a ballroom and audiovisual equipment.

The points math

The Clayfield is a Category 5 property in World of Hyatt. Award nights price at 15,000, 20,000, 25,000, 30,000 or 35,000 points depending on the season. The hotel uses the first three levels, so standard room awards run at 15,000, 20,000 or 25,000 points a night.

Most winter and shoulder dates cost 15,000 points. Most summer dates cost 25,000. Standard room awards are mostly unavailable on Saturdays through July and August.

World of Hyatt expanded each of its eight categories from three redemption levels to five on 20 May 2026. The five tiers run Lowest, Low, Moderate, Upper and Top. The 15,000-point floor for Category 5 belongs to that structure. Hyatt states it guarantees no nights at a category's lowest tier.

Five of the eight suite types count as Standard Suites for World of Hyatt upgrade purposes. A suite above 800 square feet can be booked on points for 27,000 points a night.

Cash rates

Entry-level rooms sat around $316 on the dates checked by Traveling For Miles. Peak summer weekends reached just under $400 before taxes and fees. On three dates with an identical $316 cash rate, one priced at 20,000 points and two at 15,000. An August midweek night can cost less in cash than a December weekday and still carry 10,000 more points.

The destination fee

Cash stays carry a daily destination fee of $33.90 CAD, about $24. Hyatt charges no destination fee on award bookings. The fee covers a car service within Niagara-on-the-Lake, hotel bicycles, two keepsake reusable water bottles per stay, a welcome beverage, seasonal offers at Stratus Vineyards, offers at Clayfield Commons retailers, an amuse bouche with a beverage purchase at Terrain between 17:00 and 18:00, 10 percent off spa retail, a wine country picnic in warmer weather and an ice wine discovery in colder weather.

Self-parking is free and EV charging is available.

The opening offers

Two promotions run alongside Hyatt's standard new-hotel bonus. The Collector's Stay pays 2,500 bonus points per night on stays of two nights or more with the code POINTS. Savour the Stay gives a $100 dining credit per stay on stays of two nights or more with the code DINE. The credit cannot be spent on alcoholic drinks.

The standard offer, 500 Reasons to Stay Here, pays 500 points per qualifying night. Both special offers must be booked by 31 October 2026 for stays through 30 April 2027. The new-hotel bonus covers stays through 31 December 2026.

The brand set

Canadian Travel News describes The Clayfield as the second Canadian property in The Unbound Collection by Hyatt. Hyatt's release lists the brand's recent additions as The Georgian in Santa Monica and Hotel 1000 in Seattle. The release names The Digby in Savannah and Casa Duhau in Mendoza as 2027 openings.
