A $537M Sports Calendar and the Daytime Window It Opens

Expedia Group and PredictHQ project that 18 US sporting events drew four million attendees and $537 million in visitor spending, with $259 million on accommodation.

Eighteen events, four million attendees

Expedia Group and PredictHQ project that 18 major United States sporting events drew more than four million attendees and generated more than $537 million in visitor spending. The events span basketball, baseball, tennis, golf and hockey, with related championship celebrations. Hotel Online carries the release with a Seattle dateline of 17 September 2026.

Where the money lands

The release itemises two lines. Accommodation accounts for approximately $259 million and hospitality for approximately $233 million. The two lines sum to $492 million beside a headline of more than $537 million, and the release does not itemise the balance.

The accommodation line is the one that reaches room revenue.

New York carries the concentration

Four events in New York drew more than 3.1 million attendees and were projected to generate $304 million in visitor spending. Counting the Southampton golf event, the wider region reaches more than $423 million. The release names the New York tennis tournament as the highest-value event analysed, at 1.1 million attendees and approximately $252 million.

Dayuse reads a day-room average of $120 for New York. A day-use booking sells hours inside a room the same hotel offers overnight.

Demand spreads past the host city

Travel intent rose 180 percent year on year in Solano County, California. Montgomery County, Texas, rose approximately 95 percent and Contra Costa County, California approximately 90 percent. The release links the Texas rise to a basketball finals series and the California rise to a halo around the Bay Area, where Santa Clara hosted six soccer matches.

International intent grew in every market the release names. Canada ranked largest by volume at 20 percent growth, followed by Brazil at 475 percent, Mexico at 65 percent, the United Kingdom at 55 percent and Japan at 35 percent. Türkiye posted the fastest growth at 505 percent, ahead of Brazil at 475 percent and Argentina at 365 percent.

The booking window

In 2025, 56 percent of Expedia Group hotel bookings near major events were made more than 30 days before check-in, and those travellers booked an average of 62 days ahead.

Brandon Ehrhardt, Vice President of Marketing at Expedia Group, states the past three years brought triple-digit booking growth across Expedia Group, averaging 160 percent per event.

What a day-use operator reads

An event date holds a market's rooms through the evening. A day-use slot sells the hours before that arrival, in the same room and on the same date, and the platform holds the room to the end of the booked slot.

What the numbers leave out

Every figure is a forecast built from travel intent and predicted spend. The headline aggregates 18 events across five sports, and the release carries no occupancy, average daily rate or revenue per available room figure for any market.

The instruction the release gives partners is to anticipate event demand early and adjust availability and visibility as booking patterns move from early planning to last-minute travel. It states that hotel partners can reach PredictHQ-powered event demand insights through Rev+ in Partner Central.
