The announcement
Sumi Yashshree Hotels & Resorts has announced the opening of Yashshree GD Garden Resort in Naharlagun, the town adjoining Itanagar. The company describes the resort as a five-star property. Hospitality Biz India published the announcement on 19 September 2026.
The site sits on Jollang Road in Papu Nallah. Land covers 13 acres.
The daytime inventory
The resort will hold 45 rooms. Event space splits into a 6,000 sq ft banquet hall, a 2,500 sq ft conference room, an 800 sq ft boardroom and a 10,000 sq ft outdoor lawn. Indoor meeting space comes to 9,300 sq ft. A restaurant, a bar and a swimming pool complete the plan, and parking will take more than 100 vehicles.
Day-use sellers work with those assets: a boardroom for a morning, a banquet hall for a session, a lawn for a reception, a pool for a half day. Sadip Lama, founder and CMD, said the resort will give Itanagar a venue for weddings, celebrations and corporate gatherings. The company will announce the opening date and bookings later.
The state's MICE subsidy
The Arunachal Pradesh Tourism Policy 2025-30 uses conferences, symposiums and exhibitions to fill the lean tourist season. It offers 20 percent of total expenditure to organisers of a domestic-participant event, capped at 5 lakh rupees, with at least 50 outstation participants. An event with significant foreign participation draws 20 percent capped at 10 lakh rupees, with at least 50 participants and a quarter of them international.
The policy cites Ministry of Tourism figures that put India's MICE contribution at 37,576 crore rupees in 2019. It invites private investment in convention centres, meeting halls and exhibition spaces.
The room target
The policy commits the state to a 50 percent increase in hotel and resort rooms over the five-year period. It directs the focus to rooms that carry high tariffs, and gives priority to premium accommodation in district headquarters. Every accommodation proposal needs approval from the Department of Tourism.
Demand into the corridor
Domestic tourist arrivals reached 1.04 million in 2023, and foreign arrivals reached 4,496. Naharlagun and Itanagar form one built-up area in Papum Pare district, served by Donyi Polo Airport. The policy lists Itanagar-Ziro-Daporijo-Aalo-Pasighat as circuit three of fourteen notified tourist circuits.
Competing supply
Cygnett Hotels & Resorts signed Cygnett Park Itanagar on 3 June 2025. That site sits 800 metres from Donyi Polo Airport and covers two acres. The plan carries 100 keys, more than 6,000 sq ft of banqueting space with an adjoining lawn, an all-day dining restaurant, a rooftop speciality restaurant, a club lounge, a swimming pool, a spa and a gym.
Cygnett operates four hotels in the Northeast and reports eight more in development or pre-opening against a 600-key regional target. Sarbendra Sarkar, the company's founder and managing director, said government investment in Northeast highways, rail and telecom had raised business sentiment and produced demand across leisure, business, MICE and weddings.
No official room count yet
The policy records that hotels in Arunachal Pradesh are not required to register with the Department of Tourism. The state plans to enforce the Arunachal Pradesh (Tourism Trade Registration and Regulation) Act, 2016 through fresh rules. A baseline survey will record accommodation by district with room counts, bed counts and tariffs. Until that survey reports, the corridor carries no official room inventory.
