The Week's Hotel Moves, Read for Daytime Inventory

Five hotel moves from 14 to 18 September 2026 change key counts and meeting space in Brooklyn, Austin, Park City, Townsend and Dana Point, and shift the room-day inventory a daytime programme sells.

What the week does to inventory

Five hotel moves published between 14 and 18 September 2026 change room counts and meeting space across four markets. A daytime or hourly booking sells part of a room-day, so each move shifts the inventory a daytime programme draws on.

Brooklyn loses 282 transient keys

Marriott International and SomeraRoad announced plans on 15 September 2026 for The Ritz-Carlton Residences, Brooklyn Heights. The project converts the former Hotel Bossert, a 282-key property that opened in 1909. Commercial Observer reports SomeraRoad bought the building last year for $100 million, and that Ian Ross, the firm's founder and managing principal, described the plan in December 2025 as 70 luxury branded condominiums. SomeraRoad declined to state a unit count for the development.

Hotel Dive reports Marriott will keep a 24-hour attended lobby, residential services, wellness and entertaining amenities, and a ground-floor restaurant from Union Square Hospitality Group. Construction is expected to start later this year, with completion anticipated in 2029.

Transient inventory at that address stops selling rooms. The rooms that a Brooklyn daytime programme could sell hours in leave the pool, and the demand the Bossert carried moves to nearby hotels.

Austin adds 252 rooms and 10,000 square feet of meeting space

1 Hotels opened 1 Hotel Austin, the brand's first Texas property, on 3 September 2026. The hotel holds 252 rooms including 60 suites in the 74-storey Waterline tower, which Kohn Pedersen Fox designed. Lincoln and Kairoi Residential developed the project. HKS Architects was architect of record, and Studio MAI handled interiors with the Starwood Hotels design team.

Event space runs above 10,000 square feet, including a 4,500-square-foot divisible ballroom and a 6,000-square-foot prefunction area. Hotel Dive counts three food and beverage venues. The hotel carries a rooftop pool and a wellness floor with a fitness centre, an outdoor terrace, a yoga studio and a spa.

Meeting space of that size generates daytime demand between sessions. The rooms add supply to the same inventory a daytime slot sells from.

Park City and Townsend add outdoor inventory

Hilton opened Canopy Deer Valley, a 180-room lifestyle hotel, on 10 September 2026. Extell Development Company developed it. Hilton states the property is the Canopy brand's first in Utah and one of the first at Deer Valley East Village.

Ofland Hotels broke ground on Ofland Smoky Mountains in Townsend, Tennessee on 15 September 2026. The plan carries 75 cabins, made up of 71 standard cabins and four ADA-accessible cabins, on 27.6 acres five minutes from the Cades Cove entrance to Great Smoky Mountains National Park. Hotel Dive reports an investment above $25 million. Ofland states the property opens in summer 2027 with reservations from January.

Both projects add inventory at the leisure end of the market, where a daytime slot competes with a full day outdoors.

Dana Point rebuilds its group capacity

JW Marriott and Aimbridge Hospitality announced the transformation of Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa into The Ocean Cliffs at Dana Point, a JW Marriott Resort. The release carries a date of 14 September 2026. The phased renovation adds a 6,000-square-foot ballroom, an expanded event lawn, ballroom and meeting facilities, a resort pool, a new arrival area and a signature restaurant.

Ben Ly, general manager of the resort, said the renovation and the entry into the JW Marriott portfolio bring larger gathering spaces for guests and locals. The property has held the Dana Point Harbor site for nearly four decades, and the added venues target the meetings, wedding and group demand that Orange County planners book.

SME business travel gains a direct channel

IHG Hotels & Resorts and easyJet entered a global partnership for small and medium-sized business travel, announced 16 September 2026. Hotel Dive reports the terms: IHG Business Edge members receive a 10 percent discount on a new easyJet plus membership with priority boarding, seat selection and an extra carry-on bag, and easyJet plus SME members receive IHG Business Edge benefits, including preferred rates and accelerated access to IHG One Rewards Gold Elite status after a first eligible stay.

The terms come from the release the two companies shared.

Seattle strike ends after 85 days

Union workers at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Seattle Downtown Pioneer Square ratified a new contract, ending an 85-day strike. Hotel Dive reports the ratification. South Seattle Emerald reports the strike began 18 June 2026. KIRO 7 reports the contract carries year-round health care coverage, workload protections and rights for immigrant workers, and that UNITE HERE Local 8 describes the action as the longest hotel strike in Washington state history. Workers sought higher wages, year-round health coverage and pre-pandemic staffing levels. Wage pressure of that shape raises the cost a daytime slot has to clear on an urban full-service property.

Hotel Dive also reports that former Marriott International executive Liam Brown joined the Chatham Lodging Trust board of trustees as an independent director.
