A Campus Building and the Daytime Inventory Near It
Purdue University completes the Academic Success Building in May 2027. The 15-story building at Michigan and West streets carries 248,000 square feet, nearly 500 residence beds and a dining room for almost 400 people, on a $187 million budget.
A day-use slot sells a few hours of a room-day whose payroll, utilities and front-desk cost are committed already. The campus calendar puts people on that corner at the hours a day-use room sells: evening and weekend programmes, weekend STEM sessions and summer sessions alongside the weekday teaching.
The Inventory Inside Half a Mile
Four properties sit within half a mile of the site. The distances come from OpenStreetMap coordinates. The Hampton Inn Indianapolis Downtown IUPUI and the Homewood Suites by Hilton Indianapolis Downtown IUPUI share 414 W. Vermont St. at 232 m (0.14 mi) and 234 m (0.15 mi). The Residence Inn Indianapolis Downtown on the Canal sits at 350 W. New York St., 385 m (0.24 mi). The Courtyard Indianapolis at the Capitol sits at 320 N. Senate Ave., 489 m (0.30 mi).
Those four addresses carry the inventory a campus visitor walks to between sessions. No source publishes the day-use rate or the count of hourly rooms at any of them.
What a Day-Use Slot Sells For
Engine publishes an Indianapolis average of $128 a night across 1.2 million public rate observations from May 2024 to April 2026, with February at $107 and January at $114. Dayuse.com lists an average day-room price of $87.43 for Indianapolis, with free cancellation and payment at the hotel.
hotelSlots publishes the day-use band at 30 to 75 percent less than the nightly rate at the same hotel, and its day-use page reads 40 to 60 percent of the overnight price. The two published bands are the frame an operator applies to a room-day that the campus fills at midday or in the evening.
The Calendar the Campus Runs
The published programme ties the building to an academic calendar. Classrooms and laboratories serve the teaching day. The K-12 STEM enrichment runs at night, on weekends and through the summer. Residential space serves students across the school year.
Scale at build-out reads 16 new buildings on 28 acres, 4.5 million gross square feet, up to 5,320 residence beds and up to 15,000 students under the master plan the trustees endorsed in June 2025.
None of those counts converts to a room-night figure, and no source publishes the visitor calendar. Ask Purdue for the programme schedule and the visitor calendar, and price the daytime slots against those hours.
The 2027 Delivery Beside It
The Convention Center counts 7,100 hotel rooms in downtown Indianapolis and 4,700 connected by skywalk. Visit Indy counts the connected package at 12 hotels and 5,200 rooms. The Convention Center's April 21, 2026 release states Signia by Hilton Indianapolis, an 800-room property, accepts reservations for stays beginning February 1, 2027.
Lodging Econometrics counted 15 Indianapolis projects with 2,154 rooms forecast to open in 2027, the year the campus building completes. An operator pricing daytime inventory for that year sells into that delivery.
